Stuff I made: Campaign for an omnipresent (in Austria anyway) bank

Denizbank asked TAXI Europe to introduce Denizbank’s new online banking service in Austria (of all places). I wanted the Austrian public to understand they could now take care of their banking business anywhere in Austria. And I mean: ANYWHERE.

Stuff I made: ‘Green But Mean’ Campaign for SEAT

When SEAT introduced the new1.2 TDI Ecomotive version of their sporty Ibiza model, they had a challenge on their hands:

How to reconcile this new more eco friendly and smaller engine car with the Ibiza’s traditionally sporty/macho attitude.

We ‘discovered’ an interesting insight in our research: It seemed that many eco conscious people feel that that very eco consciousness gives them license to occasionally behave in less than agreeable ways…

They figure that this bad behaviour is compensated for by their sustainable lifestyle. Building on that insight I developed the Green but Mean campaign:

Next: A fun compilation showing how people reacted to our Green but Mean actress. Everything filmed with candid cameras.

Stuff I made: Introducing the new SEAT Ibiza ST online and on TV

The Dutch could win their own brand new Ibiza ST by simply telling SEAT why they should have it, in a do-it-yourself banner:

For TV I wrote this commercial, stressing the new SEAT’s irresistibility and practicality… Which makes the guy suspects his next door neighbour to have a mistress…

Kudos to Ralph Edelstein and Mark Veldhuijzen van Zanten.

Stuff I made: Bringing IKEA’s iconic manual man to life

IKEA changed the way they produce, package and transport their kitchens, and as a result lowered the prices for the customer. They needed a high impact online banner to spread the word. I chose IKEA’s iconic manual man to tell the story and for the first time ever (officially) brought him to life.

This animation only ran for one day on Holland’s most popular news website. Unusually for a big in your face take-over banner, it got amazing reactions on Twitter and Facebook.

Kudos to my junior team Rik Eysink Smeets & Nick van Beijnen at TAXI Europe.

Stuff I made: The Return To Sender campaign

Return to Sender (RTS) is a Dutch foundation that buys local produce from third world countries and sells it in The Netherlands. The profit then flows back to these regions, hence Return to Sender. TAXI Europe and I created a campaign (TV, online, print and PR) that tells the inspiring stories of both the sellers and the users, in a capturing and personal manner.

Stuff I made: website TIGI Professional is awarded Site Of The Day

TIGI is artist led artist made. TIGI develops products where others just sell theirs. In salons. TIGI is the real deal. I wanted to make that clear through the art direction. By claiming salons and other locations of artistry. And credibly so: That’s where TIGI inspiration comes from and their products belong. So we shot TIGI products in their natural habitats: In the hands of hairdressers. In places of artistry.

Awwwards are the awards that recognize and promote the talent and effort of the best developers, designers and web agencies in the world.

What they said about TIGI Professional:

“A tight designed online platform for salon owners, stylists, and consumers displaying all the TIGI brands and what more TIGI has to offer. A unique combination of typography, design and functionality made it possible to bring all the different brands together.”

Thanks and congrats to Daan Klaver, my art director and designer on the project.

Stuff I almost made: Humans versus Pinatas

Bed Head by TIGI wanted to introduce their brand new line of Candy Fixations: Sweet cotton-candy-smelling sticky stuff to style your hair with. My challenge: To come up with a campaign that would introduce this new line of hair styling products to an audience that isn’t impressed easily by advertising.

9 4 6 13 12 26 2 7 1 8 27 29
See the full gallery on Posterous

Concept: Let’s say that these Candy Fixations are -like candy- found in… Piñatas. In order to get to these cool new products, hip people would have to hunt those Piñatas down, right? Right.

The people from Unilever -who own the Bed Head brand nowadays- just loved the whole concept a great deal. We even found the directors to shoot commercials with. Hence the mesh-up above.

In the end budget cuts prevented the campaign from ‘happening.’ So… Interested anybody? Ola? Haribo?

Stuff I made: Campaign and design for Return To Sender chocolate bars

Thanks to training courses on good agricultural practices and organic farming, Ghana cocoa farmers earn a better income and improve their livelihood. They even export the cocoa to Europe. From this week on, their chocolate bars are sold by Return To Sender in big Dutch stores such as HEMA in the Netherlands. Related project partners are Return to Sender and the COFA-association from Ghana. Daan Klaver from TAXI Europe and I did the campaign as well as the packaging design together.

Return To Sender chocolate bars have a great story to tell. Hence the wrapper.

Stuff I made: Print ads for Surfrider Foundation

Surfrider Foundation’s mission is the protection of oceans, waves and beaches through their enthusiastic activist network.

Surf1 Surf2 Surf-3 Surfrider_framed_final-4
See the full gallery on Posterous

And that’s where we come in. Surfrider Foundation needs all of us to participate, to think like surfers, to act like surfers, to become surfers by caring for our environment, by cleaning up rubbish that otherwise would eventually inevitably end up in our planet’s oceans. So I created this ‘I am a surfer’ theme (to be more precise: borrowed it from Kennedy) to explain people it’s not that difficult to become a surfer too. It’s not just about surfing skills or hip swimming trunks. Actually it’s a state of mind: Keep our planet clean. That’s where it all starts. If you understand that: Call yourself a surfer.

Kudos to Maarten van Huijstee (strategy), Val Foster (design) and Mark Veldhuijzen van Zanten (art).
