Henrik Vibskov is on another level. Artist, musician, fashion and stage designer, he is an endless source of inspiration:

To describe Henrik Vibskov as merely a fashion designer would be a vast understatement. As an artist, passionate musician, innovative stage designer, and head of his trendsetting eponymous fashion label he is at the vanguard of a new generation of creative multi-taskers. Gestalten.tv visited him in his Copenhagen studio for a chat about music, colors, the first comprehensive monograph of his remarkably versatile creative vision and (not) being your typical Scandinavian designer:

Scientists make Easter Island statue walk!

Easter Island’s iconic and mysterious statues may very well have “walked” into place— at least according to archaeologists Terry Hunt and Carl Lipo, who have determined that as few as 18 people could have used ropes to navigate the hulking moai:

The best part? The research validates the islanders’ own mythology, which claims that the moai did indeed walk across the island.

Off Book investigates the phenomenon of 8-bit art and music, tracing it from its roots in the video games of the 1970s

Beginning with early Atari and Nintendo video games, the 8-bit aesthetic has been a part of our culture for over 30 years. As it moved through the generations, 8-bit earned its independence from its video game roots. The idea of 8-bit now stands for a refreshing level of simplicity and minimalism, is capable of sonic and visual beauty, and points to the layer of technology that suffuses our modern lives. No longer just nostalgia art, contemporary 8-bit artists and chiptunes musicians have elevated the form to new levels of creativity and cultural reflection:

Hand carved ice balls and Hakusku Whisky in the Ekster’s nest

The people from Cool Hunting recently had the chance to taste The Hakusku, a 12 year old single malt made by Suntory Whisky. In the process they became enamored with the use of a hand carved ice ball. To learn more they visited The Summit, a bar in New York’s Alphabet City neighborhood to learn a little more about the process. In the video Gardner Dunn, Suntory’s National Brand Ambassador, gave them the run down on the traditional production, purpose and use of the ice ball in Japanese whisky culture:

The rebel Porsche customizer that turned his hobby into an obsession:

URBAN OUTLAW is a portrait of Magnus Walker, the rebel Porsche customizer who turned a hobby into an obsession, and an obsession into a successful business. From a workshop in downtown Los Angeles, Magnus obsessively harvests fragments from donor 911s, grafting them onto vintage frames to create one-off automobiles with the spirit of Ferdinand Porsche but an ethos entirely his own.

A little bit of denim porn to cheer you up

Legacy of Coolis the beginning attempts at a full scale documentary on the specific fabric in question. It will take a look at the culture that has been created by the denim industry, the production processes involved, the history of the trade, and of course the opinions of those who covet the material.

It’s been tough to dig up much information on this project other than its specific subject matter. One thing we do know however, is that this video labelled ‘Untitled’ on Vimeo is definitely Produced by Max Kingery, Jorge Goytisolo III, Felicia Elise and Dennis Provost.

Whenever, and however this film turns out, we can’t wait to see it in it’s entirety.

The Hipster Hunt

In the early 21st century, French journalism student Lorena Galliot visited Williamsburg, Brooklyn to observe… its hipsters.

“The Hipster Hunt” chronicles her attempts to pin down the elusive definition of “hipster,” much to the chagrin of the actual hipsters she’s interviewing.
