The United States’ most top secret beer just gained declassified status:

The White House has released the recipes for its home-brewed — and government approved — Honey Ale and Honey Porter, for those who really want to drink like the president.

While people probably wouldn’t mind a few tax dollars being spent on the Commander in Chief’s home concoctions, Barack Obama funds this venture out of his own pocket.

4 million “limited” ABSOLUT Vodka bottles:

It’s tough to convince anyone that 4 million of anything can be considered “limited”, but as it pertains to ABSOLUT Vodka’s latest marketing campaign, the number rings true.

ABSOLUT Unique is a 4 million-bottle limited edition run, set for distribution in more than 80 international markets. The task required a complete overhaul of the manufacturing plant, including the installing of splash guns and programmable color-generating machines, which employ complex algorithms in order to ensure no two bottles are alike.

How an engineering student designed the Recycling Logo (for $2,500):

In 1970, Gary Anderson was a 23-year-old college student at the University of Southern California, when a Chicago container company held a design contest to raise awareness about the environment. Anderson’s submission won, and it became the internationally recognized recycling logo — and a design classic that ranks with the Coca-Cola and Nike marks.

Despite a clear talent for the medium, Anderson actually became an architect rather than a graphic designer… Check out the full account on the Financial Times. Then remind yourself; you may become most well known for the work by which you’d prefer not to define your career. (And you may make all of $2,500 for it.)

Shepard Fairey visited Paris last week and took the opportunity to make a gigantic mural in the 13th district:

…whatever THAT means…

Want to know why a McDonald’s burger looks different in the ad than what is in the store?

Isabel B. from Toronto recently asked McDonald’s: “Why does your food look different in the advertising than what is in the store?” The fast-food giant answered her question with this video from a commercial shoot:

You’ll feel empowered rather than crippled by the internet and worst case scenario you’ll at least end up having a better idea of how professional web designers turn your design dreams into a reality on screen:

Hand carved ice balls and Hakusku Whisky in the Ekster’s nest

The people from Cool Hunting recently had the chance to taste The Hakusku, a 12 year old single malt made by Suntory Whisky. In the process they became enamored with the use of a hand carved ice ball. To learn more they visited The Summit, a bar in New York’s Alphabet City neighborhood to learn a little more about the process. In the video Gardner Dunn, Suntory’s National Brand Ambassador, gave them the run down on the traditional production, purpose and use of the ice ball in Japanese whisky culture:

A little bit of denim porn to cheer you up

Legacy of Coolis the beginning attempts at a full scale documentary on the specific fabric in question. It will take a look at the culture that has been created by the denim industry, the production processes involved, the history of the trade, and of course the opinions of those who covet the material.

It’s been tough to dig up much information on this project other than its specific subject matter. One thing we do know however, is that this video labelled ‘Untitled’ on Vimeo is definitely Produced by Max Kingery, Jorge Goytisolo III, Felicia Elise and Dennis Provost.

Whenever, and however this film turns out, we can’t wait to see it in it’s entirety.
